Who are the Poor Clare Nuns~
To the three vows of religion --obedience, poverty and chastity-- the Poor Clare adds a fourth vow: to live enclosed. It is this radical choice to live for God alone that makes the Poor Clares one of the few Orders of enclosed contemplative life for women. Not only does it form the largest Order of enclosed nuns, but one of the oldest...and some would say the first since the Poor Clares were the first to embrace a vow of enclosure... and embrace it with great love. "Embrace the Poor Christ," was St. Clare's burning desire for each of her daughters. (Taken from their website; see below.)

Tom (as I have probably told you a trillion times) is the spoiled :) baby of 8! Yes 8. One of his big sisters, Sally, left when he was 12 to join the Poor Clare Monastery in Roswell at the age of 20. Then Sister Margaret Mary (her name now) was called to join the Poor Clare Nuns in the Netherlands. She has been a Poor Clare Nun for 25 plus years now.
She was in Albuquerque for ~one night only~ this past Friday. She came to the States with the Mother Abbess (Mother Bernard) for a Federation Conference in California. We were so blessed that she was able to stop in ABQ! 5 of the siblings and their families and Mom and Dad A. flocked to ABQ for a mini reunion. (One sister saw her in CA and one sister will see her in the Washington DC area before she returns to Europe.)

Neat, neat, neat.
For many years Betty and I were members of the Third Order of Franciscans and we had friends who were friars and Poor Clares.
